Who are we?
We are people of all ages who like to sew quilts, pillowcases, laundry bags, and cuddle cloths. We tie or machine-quilt our quilts.

How is our work financed?
We receive financial help from our local quilt guild, Desert Sage Quilters. We receive donations from philanthropic groups and individuals, too. We use this money to buy batting and backing for the quilts we make.

Most of the fabric we use is donated. It is all 100% cotton fabric. Some of it comes from generous quilters who are downsizing, other fabric comes from the estates of quilters.

Where do we work?
We meet twice a month at KMVT, our local television station, in their Community Room. We work from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM on the first Wednesday and the third Monday of every month.

Many quilters like to sew at home, so they use these times to pick up and deliver items they have made at their homes. We provide our fabric to anyone who would like to create a quilt for giving to our clients.

Some groups like to pick up quilts to-be-tied and frames from us to provide an opportunity for community service to scout groups, church groups, or school groups. We are always happy to accommodate them.

What do we do?
Some of the activities you would see if you came to experience a day with us are: people sorting donated fabric, cutting fabric into sizes required by the patterns for the kits we assemble. Others would be making up pillowcase kits. We are part of the Million Pillowcase Challenge sponsored by All People Quilt. They encourage groups to make pillowcases and donate them locally.

Two other projects you might see would be pillowcases in progress and laundry bags being made. The laundry bags we make are given to foster children and others who need them to transport their personal belongings as well as for a handy place to keep their laundry.

You could also see several quilt frames set up with men, women, and children tying quilts. We have families who like to come and make tying a project completed together. It’s a great place to chat over a quilt that is being tied. New friends can be made as ideas for quilts are exchanged.

You might see quilters arriving with tops they have made at home. Some are made using our pre-assembled kits, and others are made using the quilter’s personal fabric. You could also see piles of completed pillowcases being delivered. There would be many completed quilts brought in that were quilted using our volunteers domestic or long-arm machines. Those who have sergers might be delivering the six-inch square cuddle cloths we make for infants and their families in the NICU at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center. These cloths help with the bonding of infants and families who are temporarily separated.

Special Events
Several times a year we schedule one or two-day tying events. During these times we tie quilts and add bindings to completed quilts to prepare for our donation days. We invite the community to join us.
