CQ News January 17, 2025

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting will be on Monday, January 20, 2025. We will meet in our regular meeting area to tie, cut, sew, sort, and everything else we do. We hope to see you there.

PARKING: We are locked out of the lot behind KMVT. Our parking will be in the front from now on.

We are going to stop making adult lap-sized quilts until we use up our huge supply. We need to batt and back so many that they are overflowing the boxes. if you are making a lap-sized quilt, please finish it and bring it in. We will stop making new quilts in that size for about two or three months. We will let you know when we are feeling the need again.

We need all other sizes of quilts especially the bunk-sized quilts. There are lots of kits to make in many sizes of quilts. There are some quilts we have inherited that are partially made ready to be finished. Also, we have sorted the orphan blocks into logical sets ready for making into a quilt top just by adding some sashing and borders.

There are a lot of quilts to be bound, too. Many have been trimmed, so that makes a quick start for binders.

Because we have adopted so many boxes of fat quarters, we are thinking of having a quilt top fat quarter challenge. Details will come in a following newsletter.

We will be meeting in our workroom at KMVT on the first Wednesday and the third Monday of each month. Our times are from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM.

Coming dates are:

Monday, January 20, 2025

Wednesday, February 5, 2025
Monday, February 17, 2025.

Hi quilting friends,

Happy New Year to all of you in Community Quilts. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, January 2, 2025. We will meet in our regular meeting area to tie, cut, sew, sort, and everything else we do. We hope to see you there.

We received a lot of fabric and sewing supplies from the estate of Alice DeKruyf. Her family donated her remaining quilting supplies to us. We appreciate their generosity.

We are having great success with our laundry bag donations. Folks really like them So, we need some heavier duty kinds of fabric. One yard makes a bag just for your information.

We need all sizes of quilts again. We have less need for lap-sized quilts than others because we have them in our collection of tops to have backs and batting added. But all other sizes are needed especially the bunk-sized quilts. We still have lots of quilt kits and pillowcase kits for you to choose from. We have drawers of patterns and shelves of yardage as well as precuts in varying sizes.

January 1, 2025, falls on our usual first Wednesday. We have made arrangements to move our first Wednesday to Thursday, January 2, 2025. We look forward to seeing you after the first.

Hi quilting friends,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you in Community Quilts. You make the season happier for those in need. Our next meeting will be on Monday, December 16, 2024. We will meet in our regular meeting area to tie, cut, sew, sort, and everything else we do. We hope to see you there.

Here are our year-end totals for 2024. We created and distributed the following items:
666 quilts, 594 pillowcases, 276 laundry bags, 1270 cuddle cloths, 14 table runners. In addition, we reported in our last email that we created 20 doll quilts and 136 doll clothes for the baby dolls and 18 inch dolls: 10 of each doll. Isn’t this just the most amazing group of loving, generous folks? We have lots of fabric to share, but there are folks who use some pieces of their own stashes to create beautiful items for us. What a caring group of sewers, quilters, and tiers CQ is.

As we distribute our gifts, we receive smiles and thankful messages from everyone. It is a very rewarding time that we want to pass along to all of you who make Community Quilts possible. Here are some of the thank-yous we have received:

*Rising Stars raised around $1500 for the beautiful horse quilt that we donated.
*Youth Crisis Center thanked us for the quilts that “offered comfort and warmth to youth who are struggling with mental health issues.
*St. Luke’s Foundation thanked us for our “thoughtfulness and generosity” in creating and donating quilts for cancer patients, pediatrics, pillowcases, and cuddle cloths.
*Sage Women’s Center thanked us for our continuing support.

We still have lots of quilt kits and pillowcase kits for you to choose from. Take a look!

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. We will stop at 2:30 PM to set up for our delivery day on December 5, 2024. We will meet in our regular meeting area to tie, cut, sew, sort, and everything else we do. We hope to see you there.

Our doll clothes project was a good one again this year. We completed 136 sets of doll clothes for 20 dolls: ten baby dolls and ten 18 inch dolls. Every doll has a quilt as well. It made a great delivery for the foster children at CASA. Thank you for all your time and sewing skills. The clothes were so nice and very much appreciated by the folks at CASA.

We are making bunk-sized quilts using the nine-patch squares from the Twin Falls County Fair project. We will have five quilts to donate! We have been creating another kind of bunk quilt thanks to an idea from Gordon Bybee. We have one so far, but we have ideas for using up a lot of our 4 1/2 squares.

We still have lots of quilt kits and pillowcase kits for you to choose from. Take a look!

Those of you who are making doll clothes for our 18 inch dolls and 12 inch baby dolls need to know that we have a deadline of the end of November to finish them. We will have 10 of each of the dolls to dress. The dolls are given to foster children through CASA for Christmas. We try to make several outfits for each kind of doll. We have patterns and fabric if you would like to create some clothes for the dolls.

We have scheduled our final tying days event for two days in November. We will work in the Community Room. Please invite your group or friends to come and tie with us. The dates will be: Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 7.

We are still looking for more quilt tops in bunk-sized and infant-sized quilts. We have most of the other sizes covered right now.

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting will be on Monday, August 19, 2024. We will meet in our workroom at KMVT from 10:00 AM until 2:30 PM. Come join us! We will be stopping early to remove the frames and set up tables to sort the quilts for our distribution day on August 20, 2024.

The patches will be sewn together to make a bunk-sized quilt top for delivery to an agency such as Sleep in Heavenly Peace whose volunteers construct bunk beds for kids who need them.

Please bring any items you have completed on Monday, August 19, so that we can include them in our distribution this time.

If you can help us out with adding binding to our completed quilts, you will find many to choose from in our Bind Me box.

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. We will meet in our cool and comfy workroom at KMVT from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM. Come join us!

We have added a back and batting to our last available bunk-sized quilt top. If you would like to make one for us, we would put it to use happily. We are always in need of infant quilts and youth quilts.

The shelves are full of completed quilts ready to be donated. So, we have set our Monday, August 19, 2024, meeting date as a time to make that happen. We will close down tying early, set up the tables, and sort what we have into sizes ready for filling the requests we will receive.

A few of us have scheduled to go to the Home Arts building during the fair to promote Community Quilts. We will be taking 4 1/2 inch squares for folks to design a nine patch which we will sew to be put into a bunk-sized quilt top. Last year, we were a real hit. This year should be fun as well.

We will be meeting in our workroom at KMVT on the following dates (first Wednesday and third Monday each month). Our times are 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you.

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting is this coming Monday, July 15, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM. We will be working in our cool, air-conditioned, workroom and hope to see you there, too.

If you are a binder, the Bind Me box has grown to four boxes. There are some beautiful quilts just waiting to be finished.

Carolyn has been told that there is a longarm machine Kim Quigley wishes to donate. It is a Hinterberg Voyager longarm. As much as we would love to adopt it for our Community Quilts room, there is no room. We are full-up with fabric. If you are interested in knowing more about this, please let us know.

We are always in need of infant quilts and youth quilts. We have kits for these that you may choose from, or we have lots of panels and children’s prints in cotton and flannel if you would like to invent something. We have patterns, too.

We will be meeting in our workroom at KMVT on the following dates (first Wednesday and third Monday each month). Our times are 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you.

Hi quilting friends,

We will meet this coming Wednesday, July 3, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM. We will be doing our regular jobs and sorting the new fabric we just received from Rebecca Osteen of Buhl. Her church group has made quilts for several years, but they are retiring and have given us several totes of lovely fabric for which we thank them.

We have received a generous donation from the Keveran Foundation to help us buy batting and backing fabrics. We appreciate their help with our financial needs.

The Bind Me boxes are groaning again with all the beautiful quilts that have been made this spring. If you can help with binding, please pick one up on Wednesday.

If you would like an easy project, pick up fabric for a laundry bag. The bags have become a wanted item by many of the agencies we serve. Another quick project to choose from are the many pillowcase kits that we have assembled. They will be so beautiful when they are finished.
